Chemical Peels

Chemical Peel, also known as chemo-exfoliation or derma-peeling, is a facial resurfacing technique that uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin, when it heals back, is much smoother and luminescent. You may need to undergo the procedure more than once with a light or medium peel to get the desired results.

Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, discolored skin and scars, usually on the face. Peel can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures and can be performed at different depths, from light to deep. Deeper chemical peels offer more dramatic results but also take longer to recover.

Our choice is Jessner Acid which is a combination of 3 acids. It is an equal mixture of lactic, salicylic and resorcinol. A traditional Jessners is a 14% mixture of each acid. Jessner’s is the preferred peeling solution for those with oily, acne prone skin. It can also be used on hyperpigmentation. It is used in conjunction with a TCA or other peels or a Vitamin A peel. Ideally safe for all skin types.
Jessners is technically still considered a superficial peel, but it will definitely cause more, larger flakes than any of the singular.
The Jessners solution has the benefit of being applied in multiple layers, and that can give you a deeper peel than the singularly applied hydroxy acids.
Jessners will generally be applied in a series of peels based on how many layers are applied. So, if only one layer is applied, the peel can be repeated in 1-2 weeks. If only 2-3 layers are applied, the peel can
be repeated in 2-4 weeks. If 4 or more layers are applied, the peel can be repeated in 1-2 months.

Skin prep
When preparing the skin for a peel, there are some steps will lead to good result by addressing the uneven and rough unprepared surface that don’t get enough acid penetration. It is recommended to prepare skin for at least 2 weeks by using an acid based cleanser. Acids help to thin the stratum
corneum so the skin is more even and ready to accept any treatments especially a peel.
Choose a cleanser based on your skin type and used it twice daily. Follow the acid cleanser with an antioxidant as High Octane Vitamin C Serum to brighten and even the skin tone and stimulate regeneration. Also use SPF of at least 30 to protect your skin. With the stronger acids it is recommended to prepare the skin with Retinoids. This will help to thin the outermost layer of dead skin as well as pre-treat any pigmentation and stimulates collagen production.

Another reason to use Retinoids prior to a peel is to help with healing. Vitamin A puts the skin into a hyper-regenerative state. This means faster healing and pigmentation reduction.
For the dark skin it is highly recommended to use a melanin inhibitor.
